YNAB Classic App Reviews

Last update went wrong

As good as it is in general, the last update has been a disaster. The budget is not updating after adding transactions, the transactions are not listed properly until reload of the whole app. Please fix it.

Accounts

All is fine. But I wish there were possibility to have accounts in different currencies. Now only one currency at the starting of the program can be chosen.

Ottimo

Il complemento ideale per YNAB desktop. Missing iPad compatibility and categories editing.

Excellent

Good addition for YNAB for MacOSX. Missing iPad version and some useful features (i.e. categories management)

iPad Version

Please provide an iPad version of the product. Thank you

Great

This app is great, it forces you to plan your budget for the month and live up to it. A really nice addition would be to have the ability to set a goal and see how your per moth saving add up to it, this way you could estimate how long before the goal is reached and how far off you are. A baseline to compare against each month would be great.

I love it

Very well developed. Helps you keep track of all your expenses in a very easy way. I love the interface too. Would be great if you could update your budget from the app. Now you can do it only from the Desktop version.

The latest update crashes when opening the app

Please fix it soon

Amazing!

I totally love this app, and the iPad version, and of course the YNAB software! Everything is perfect, really great job, I use it every single day! Purchase the software (because You Need A Budget!) and then get this app to manage it! If there was one thing I would dare to suggest, it would be being able to work on the budget (I mean "give every dollar a job”, etc.) in the iPhone app like it is already possible in the iPad app would be really useful. Even better create/edit categories on our mobile devices would be very useful, without having to go back to the mac. Since iPhone 6 plus came out

excellent

After having tried several apps this is definitely the best choice for me. I am using YNAB system since one year and i definitely recommend it. Keep your finances in control with constance and a great software (paired with a computer app).

YNAB is the only *budgeting* app

I wish I could change my budget on an iPhone though, without using my Mac/iPad. Still, great great software suite!

Buggy

In view mode all is fine, but as soon as you start adding items everything becomes buggy. The lists have big white unclickable areas and the rendering is faulty. Please restore it as it was before turning it to classic. For the other users, I warmly advise not to upgrade!

Great!

YNAB4 is The Best

Still great, and still supported

Ive been using YNAB (the desktop version) for a little over a year, and its great! While you could use YNAB for any style of budgeting, the recommended model has been easy and effective for me. I highly recommend watching at least the first guide on the publishers website. I really dont understand the negative reviews of this app. Its still free, still works with the desktop version of YNAB, and has all of the functionality that was available the first day I installed the YNAB mobile app. You can only log transactions and view your budget on the iPhone, but this is not a new restriction. I do the budget planning every few weeks at home, so this isnt a serious limitation for the way I use the app. I havent tried the new version of YNAB, and Im not sure I will, since YNAB 4 works so well for me. Im happy they are still supporting the old version for 2016, and I expect it to be available (even if it isnt being updated) indefinitely.

You saved my bacon!

This is the first time that my wife and I have been able to stay on a budget. Great work and would recommend this app for everyone.

very happy with classic

ive only used classic. and i use the desktop app weekly and the ios app on my iphone daily. always been very happy with the classic app. its made the not fun task of budgeting and tracking spending much easier and bearable. and YNAB how-tos brought clarity and simplicity to personal finance accounting for me... cant speak to customer service bit as ive used the app for years and never had a problem.

Absolutely worth it!

This is more than just an app, this is a philosophy on money. I cant recommend this app/software enough. It syncs across devices as well as into your daily routines seamlessly. Ive gone from spending my entire paycheck each month to breaking the paycheck to paycheck cycle. For the first time in my life, I have over $3,000 in my savings account after paying all of my rent and my bills for the month. This will take time and patience, discipline and a long-term scope, but its absolutely worth it. This will change how you view and treat your finances. I wish I would have done this so much sooner in my life. You need a budget.

Missing one critical feature

I would definitely use this app but it is missing one basic feature a running balance or at minimum a daily balance if your on vacation or away from your desktop you dont have a clue how much money you have. Thats a non-starter for me.

Stick with Classic

Maybe new YNABers will like the new YNAB software better. For us long time users though, the trade off is just not worth it. Yes, automatic imports from banks was long desired. Not at the sacrifice of so many crucial basic features though. Thats just what the new YNAB does. Strips all the features we have so effectively used to manage our budgets, and leaves them in the dust. For now, Ill stick with classic until it is so unsupported as to render it useless. In the meantime, I, like MANY others, will be looking for alternatives. I can only hope for Steine that they can get enough new users to sustain their new direction. By my count, they are losing AT LEAST half of their long time clientele as a result of a horrific upgrade release. Thats what happens when you fix that which does not need fixing...

Its not the monthly $, its the terrible update

Im sadly realizing that Ive been in denial. The developers are never going to put some of the features I really care about into the new version. Were halfway through 2016, and I dont look forward to worrying about an OS or iOS update suddenly breaking YNAB once support ends. Maybe the software will work for years, but every time I do an upgrade, Ill have to export my YNAB data first just in case. I spent years searching for the perfect financial software, and I had found it. My spouse was on board. Now Im struggling to find an alternative. My deal breaker issue isnt the subscription model. Its the features they took away, some of which they clearly dont intend to put back. What a downer. Previous: I loved this app, but with its impending demise in 2017, its no longer worth downloading. Sooner or later after support stops, an OS update will break it. I decided to try the new web version, really trying to be open minded. Its a stripped-down and not even well-designed for what it does. For everybody who supports or hates the idea of a subscription service, set that aside and just focus on the new web version is just plain bad. Ive been a huge fan of YNAB. I bought copies for my college-aged children. This is a really disappointing change. Ive gone back to the Web app several times trying to make it work, and I just hate it. A few specifics: * They released it prematurely. You cant do in-line calculations to help figure out splits anymore. There are no reports yet. There is no value to having a trial version that will expire before critical features are added in the software. * Only one month shows at a time. I compared months to help decide budget amounts. * They have adamantly decided that we cannot rollover negative values in budgets because it conflicts with their philosophy. A lot of us, who DO understand the implications of letting a budget go negative, used that feature. * The amount in an account is based on today, not everything youve entered. Your account balance information is no longer any more informative than asking for your balance at the ATM. They dont think this is necessary because they believe sticking to the budget will protect your account balance, but I liked having a redundant system. * When they initially couldnt handle the traffic setting up account links, I couldnt get rid of those messages so that I could at least try editing budgets. The web interface should have been able to function in other ways even when he couldnt access bank accounts at the moment. Poor programming.
