YNAB Classic App Reviews

I feel compelled to write this review because the ratings of 1 and 2 starts that I am seeing are totally unjustified. It is no secret that YNAB is moving from a desktop based application to a web based application, and the company has been telling their customers for 2 years that it was coming. The desktop version was built on the aging Adobe Air platform for cross-compatibility with Windows and Mac, and that approach just was not going to last forever. The YNAB Classic app is the original app that works with the YNAB4 desktop platform. I have been using YNAB4 and this app since they came out in 2012 and have been extremely happy with them. This app was built to sync with the desktop software via wireless network or Dropbox, and has served me well for almost 4 years now. This app used to receive rave reviews, and the current negative reviews seem directed more at the company’s new web based business model. If you don’t like that model, then look for another budgeting product. But nothing has changed about this app. It still works just as well with the legacy YNAB4 desktop software as it always has. If you are using the new web based YNAB, then this is the wrong app and you need the one that is simply named YNAB. I just want any potential new YNAB customers to understand the difference here and to not be unduly influenced by these negative reviews. The new web based YNAB is still going through some growing pains, but in my opinion YNAB still remains the best choice for anyone interested in the envelope approach to budgeting.

Explanation from YNAB support of syncing "hiccup" that caused me to lose hours of work after entering transactions on my iPad... "Hi there - Im so sorry for your frustration, and Im sorry that this has happened. Unfortunately, the only way we could recover these transactions is if they were still available on at least one of your devices. Since it sounds like that isnt the case, Im afraid they will need to be re-entered. :( Im sorry about this - I understand what a set-back this can be. What happened in this case was that there was a hiccup in the syncing mechanism, and when that happens, as syncing begins again the desktop version of your budget supersedes all other versions. Im sorry that we dont have better news for you - but please let me know if you have any other questions."

The first thing you do when you find yourself in a hole is to stop digging. I hope you go back to your old business model. If you needed more referrals al you had to do was ask. I hope you read all these reviews. We believe in your business purpose and we are raving fans. Dont change. If you do we will leave.

Im not sure why all the other reviews are so negative, Ive used YNAB for the last 3 years and will continue to do so with the "Classic" version of the app. It still syncs just fine with Dropbox. If this features ever breaks then Ill be sad but for now everything is working awesome! My wife and I use the same Dropbox account to keep our phones synced to our desktop. Thanks YNAB Team for supporting the Classic version!

Ive used YNAB for two years. It was an effective and useful tool. I spent hours watching the training videos to make sure I was getting it right. Now this move to a YNAB 4 version seems to have sucked the life out of the "classic". My budgets no longer sync properly between devices so its impossible to keep proper track of what is actually going on with my money. Its really sad that YNAB developers trashed a good product.

This is the best app for not just tracking, but CONTROLLING, your spending. No more saving receipts to enter the transactions in at home, no more miscommunication between my husband and I over how much money is in a given budget category, no more reconciling that feels like pulling teeth. I use this with Dave Ramseys "baby steps." The forward movement weve made with the combination of FPU and YNAB is incredible. Im eager to move to the "new" YNAB once I get a phone that can update to iOS 8. As it is, I recommend both apps to everyone I know. Yes, the new YNAB doesnt have all the features Im hoping for, but Im confident that they will soon.

No way am I storing my budget and account info on yet another remote server. Legacy WiFi sync was secure and worked. Stop pushing products to the monthly SaaS model

Please fix the sync. I am not moving to the web based version anytime soon. Now my new budget does not sync.
