YNAB Classic App Reviews

Contrary to some reviews here you CAN manage your budget category amounts in-app. This app does everything you think it should and does it well. Never crashes, sync feature is very robust, information is presented clearly and efficiently (although TouchID would be nice). Honestly, a must-have app for an indispensable service.

I installed the free app and when I ran it, I get a screen saying that I must have the computer app for it to work. I went to the website and Im not denying that its nice, in fact it might be fantastic. But the app for a Mac or PC is $60 with free updates for any 4.x version. So how much will you have to pay again when version 5.x comes out? Thanks but Ill pass. There are a number of other good apps that cost somewhat less.

The app is too oversimplified lacking the useful and needed abilities. The main one being... Why can I WAM on the go? Aka why cant I transfer from one budget to another. When Im sitting in the Emergency room, why cant I allocate some Vacation budget funds to my Medical budget.

The rating is more for YNAB overall. The iOS apps are ok. No complaints with iPhone. Would sure like to see some charts/graphics/reports though on the iPad version. Apps like "pocket" and the desktop version have such reports.

The desktop application is great. This mobile app is almost useless, as the only features are the ability to view your budget categories and add expenses / income. Since Im already on a smart phone, if I really wanted to I could just take a note of expenses/income and input them later. The fact that you cant change anything in your budget is moronic. I travel for work and dont have a laptop -- going weeks without editing my budget, which is against the "rules" this method stipulates. Some of that $60 should go towards a stellar mobile app; its 2015, after all.

The perfect companion to the perfect budgeting app.

The best app that Ive used. Requires purchase of the desktop software, but the entire system works seamlessly. Great job. If I had one thing on my wishlist, it would be TouchID support. Would be great!

Finally, simple and flexible finance/budgeting app. One that delivers the goods and provides LOADS of support to users. Being able to sync with my iMac is even more handy!

I love the apps and its really quick to add entry... The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is : iPhone : * budget editing * no report Please add that feature on the iPhone. iPad * Allows categories editing/adding. * please add calculator function in field... * Please add report on the iPad. I love YNAB, but the slow process of release make me look at another app... Like moneywell... Thanks Continue the good work!

This app is only good insofar as it is tied to the desktop app. The whole process makes budgeting simple which is great, but its also that simplicity that creates every reason to include all functions in the mobile app. It should be an iOS version of the desktop app that does everything the desktop app does. So people who prefer the desktop app, will work on their computers and people who prefer working on mobile, can use their phones. But I have to presume the developer is doing it this way so that it is not obligated to give Apple a portion of its profits. And the end user loses out.

I bought my first YNAB product when it was still in spreadsheet format. The principles are the same now as they were then, and the supporting technology just keeps on getting better. Expect even more improvements to the mobile app. Desktop product is phenomenal.

Convenient and easy transaction entry makes this a great companion for the Mac and iPad apps. However, app should be updated for Touch ID to provide security and convenience for access to the budget on the go. It would also be nice to be able to modify the budget on the iPhone app.

Almost perfect.

Been using YNAB for the past 12 months. Was using MONEY for many years before that. Simple and seamless is how I would describe this app. But much more to learn on Reports. Used the online email to help figure out an account switch, easy and great support.

Id like to see more basic functions. Like being able to tweak the budget through the app. As of now you can only add transactions. Id also like to see how much money I didnt put to work yet...and put it to work later on the app. If you can do this and I just missed it I will change my review. For the price the missing features should be in the app.

Although I technically ought to review the free app, its just a companion to the desktop software. The desktop software has changed the way I look at my bank account, and that is worth the price of the software.

Love the app, great product and well worth the money. Has saved way more than its value many times over in savings. The only two things I wish it had was Touch ID support for access control and Apple Watch support for categorizing transactions.

"Do I have enough in my account for that coffee table?" Is a question that YBAB 4 prevents you from asking because it changes your thinking to "Have I budgeted for home improvements this month?" or "Is there some other area I wont be spending as much on this month that will cover this coffee table?" Better than a combination massage/counseling session for relieving stress, once youve given every dollar you earn a job, YNABs budgeting system takes care of you. The online resources are bar none when it comes to giving you the tools to use their software, and they even offer daily webinars on different topics for which you can sign in to listen in on from you phone. Simply amazing software!

Awesome program just wish you can change money from category if you dont have any money in that category. Rule 3 roll with the punches will not work with the app. iPad app has this feature. Also able to switch months to see previous months.

Quick and easy to enter transactions; can see all accounts, even net worth. Quick to learn new payees, etc. Please add the capacity to move funds from one category to the next. Add at the top of the budget screen, like the iPad app, the full month picture.
