YNAB Classic App Reviews

Thiefs

Stole my money.

Still Good

I have been using YNAB 4 for more than a year and the app still does good. I am still not convinced to switch to the online version, but I will use version 4 as long as I can.

Five to One

How disappointing can greed be! We paid for the desktop version and the app remember? Hope you all learn a good lesson from this stupid decision. Used to be a good app and enjoyed using it. Now theres nothing classic about it.

Good ap but not supported for long

I have liked this version of ynab (you have to buy the web page component) despite some areas being clunky and some improvement being desired. I used to recommend it but unfortunately no longer do.... Ynab announced early Jan 2016 this would no longer be supported after 2016. They announced a new version Jan 2016 but so many of the features in this version were missing (and still are 7 months later) I have no faith it will ever be something I could rely upon. This version had some great principles they used in budgeting including one that was dont spend more than you earn (a very important rule). Unfortunately the new ynab product does not use that rule (they even dropped it from their how to budget trainings). The new version just focuses on not spending how much money you have (including available credit cards) so it is so easy to intentionally or accidentally run up credit cards and deplete savings without realizing it. So sorry I cant recommend this or the new ynab product anymore.

App has only one use

The only thing you can do with this app is add transactions to your already created desktop budget. Thats it! It would be nice to have way more features. For example, bill due date reminders w/ calendar functions, be able to create categories/sub categories, and the ability to link your bank account in real time would be nice. Ill continue using this "free for college students version" of YNAB, but I may look into a more versatile budgeting program that has an app with more functions.

Too expensive

For not good reason. The desktop is good. This one just junk. No iPad support or real time update with accounts. Mint seems better overall.

Poor decisions

This is an updated review after the recent "bugfix" update: The developer did a minor update but still ignored everyones message to change the app icon. If you insist into putting a ribbon you should at least name it Gold. As in a reminder for all the people that appreciated your app and payed good money to support your initiative and there after, audacity to move to a perpetual rent model. I recommended to everyone that buying the app is a must do. To rent it...? Please spare me of the embarrassment. Review after the app rent model: The app is great, the community is great and the team seemed great. Latest decisions however are not!

Good, needs a bit of polish...

Old 5x star review below. Updated: 1x star. Im hugely disappointed by the pivot to an online SaaS product. YNAB was doing the right things, then they misjudged their customer base and went with an online offering, and alienated their users. Very sad. If I wanted to use Mint, I would use Mint. I dont want Mint, I want YNAB. My wife and I are considering our options and are not pleased, but will likely abandon this product. Sigh. ---- Old 5x Star Review 5x stars because the app does what it should, does it well, and less than 5/5 is petty. But. TouchID? Please? Also, itd be great if on import, if something was coded with the wrong Source, but is imported from a bank correctly, that something would flag this and make it easy to identify and fix. Keep it up!!!

Excellent budgeting software and app

Still loving this software! Two requests that would make it even better: - Allow editing of a budget from iPhone app as well, not just iPad- theres more than enough space to do it on a 6+/6S+, at least. - Offer Touch ID support in addition to the regular passcode lock. Thanks for a great app!

Still lame

The only reason for the most recent update was to get rid of their previous negative reviews. No significant improvement was made. This review is to continue to express disgust in the move to go subscription based. Pathetic ynab.

Great app, lack regular updates

Please ad editing budget in iPhone Plus! Change back the subscription model!

Disappointed and Moving On

Used to be good app until the makers went to a "pay to play" service and basically dropped the classic app. Moving on to something else. The app used to be descent but now not worth keeping.

Keeps deleting my budget amounts

I had a budget amount set on the desktop app. Whenever I add a transaction with the mobile app, it clears out my budget amounts.

YNAB great. This app is unacceptably buggy now.

Newest version zeros out budget category every time I add a transaction.

Still with the banner?

I hate you guys.

Really guys?

Get rid of the stupid banner that says classic. Take a note from Day One app - their classic app didnt put such an ugly banner on the icon. Your subscription model is a joke and is causing everyone I know to move elsewhere. Classic is the only thing keeping me hanging on.

Junk

Completely incompatible with ipad

One Account on Two iPhones = Buggy

We have been using this for two years now. We really liked it to begin with, but within three months of getting on the desktop monthly to set up the budget, then using our respective iPhones while we were out and about to update our spending quickly became a hassle. 1) There is not an option on the iPhone version to change the budget or headlines. We had to get on the desktop version to do that. Every time the budget changed. 2) It was downloaded on one iPhone before the other, so that iPhone is apparently the main device. The other iPhone, when updated with spending info away from wifi, forces a resync every time the app is opened and before any info may be entered. If its not on wifi, the resync doesnt work and the spending info entered only shows on the second iPhone. So it is ALWAYS days later when we realize it. 3) The desktop version is confusing. Not much about it that is user friendly. We just quit trying to enter the budget info, and have since pretty much fallen off the budget bandwagon. Will this be fixed? We spent $60 out of our budget to buy this app to be so thoroughly disappointed. Weve contacted the company that told us how to fix it. For a day. Were back where we started. I may not make it another month using this app, and Im sure not paying monthly to upgrade if its anything like the classic version. At least offer a free upgrade for those that paid for the classic version.

Bait and switch via a long con.

This new five dollar a month charge with no choice to continue using the software I paid for is unethical and based in greed. How sad. Please leave an appropriate review for this jerk move, and then check out an app I just read about in these reviews called Every Dollar, by David Ramsey. Its free, and highly-rated.

So sad mad and frustrated

I just recommended YNAB to a client the night before the change. Citing how long I had watched how they do business and put customer sfirst and how good the software was. Well I tried the new online version. SOooo disappointed and SOOoo MAD I spent HOURS only to discover it doesnt work and is MISSIng key features. Why be underhanded and not say this upfront? The EXPECTATION is that all the features that were in a previous version would be in the new one. But in the rush to get NEW users at the new year I guess they figured they wouldnt know the difference. Very sad and in mourning. It seems the development is at least a year off from gaining parity-- likely more. I thought this would make the mobile version and iPad work like the desktop. No --still stripped down it does NOT work in all modern Browsers! Modern browsers today INCLUDE mobile! Thats the main reason to have an online version. Nothing is gained from the new version except a fancier philosophy.
